Rules only hand made accepted,

What do you think?

(I saw this advertisement whilst in the waiting room in a Devon Live magazine, Brights of nettlebed and it made me think it would make a real challenge for us forum members)

I assume a piece like this would need a fully stocked machine workshop these days, would anyone attempt hand made even as a commission piece?

google Brights of nettlebed for more examples

Furniture that is every bit as technically demanding as the piece you referenced is still being made in this country,

And regarding the Brights Of Nettlebed item, I think it's of far eastern origin. Certainly their website makes no mention of British workshops, which if they existed you'd imagine would be front and centre in their advertising. What you do find however is lawyerly weasel words like "From museum pieces to outstanding designs found at auction, Rep-li-ca pays tribute to these masterpieces in every important detail". Now what does "in every important detail" actually mean? Well, it doesn't extend as far as hand cut dovetails for example, because the Brights of Nettlebed pieces that I've seen feature router cut dovetails from the same basic dovetail jigs that Oak Furniture Land use!

Custard your reply is very informative and the link was also interesting (I can see where China now comes in when prices are mentioned and compared)

I would still have liked to have had the skill to have made that piece shown at the Bright web page.

I note Barnsley copy my ideas of alternate colour layers. :p
