collet stuck in router

Hi,
I'm setting up a small workshop in a single garage.
As a beginner I thought the Triton system looked good to start with and
I have the Workcentre 2000 and Triton saw.
I've just bought the router table and small 1400W router.
After fixing the router to the table I changed the 1/4" collet for the 1/2".
This was the first time I had changed the collet and I guess I over-
tightened it before inserting the bit .
Unfortunetly the bit then wouldn't fit and, even worse, when I tried to
remove the collet, the outer nut came off but the collet appears to be
jammed in the chuck.
After phoning Triton UK for some advice I tried to carefully remove
the collet with grippers but it's jammed solid.
Can anyone please suggest a solution?

Eric managed to get it out with vicegrips. I'm not sure if this is the best course of action though. One of our members (Argee) is a Triton demonstrator. If you PM him, he may be able to help.

If you get really stuck (no pun intended) try yellow pages for electric motor servicing/rewinds, as they may have a blind bearing puller (for extracting bearings from blind holes) small enough to do the trick.

If you are very lucky and have a twist drill that just slides in where the bit goes (31/64?) put grease down the hole to half fill the bit cavity, then press in the chuck end of the drill and tap it in - you are creating a sort of home made hydraulic ram which may start the extraction going. This may sound dubious, but it approximates a standard bush mechanic method of extracting blind bronze bearings. (A wooden drift turned to a close fit is more usual than the drill)

Get a 9/16th AF open ended spanner, position the open jaw under the edge of the lip on the collet and give it a sharp tap with a hammer. If it does not come out first try rotate the collet and keep on tapping,
Its not uncommon for collets to stick no matter how well maintained
Just clout em judiciously.

use a small rawlbolt the straight Hilti versions - if it's really stuck you can put a tube over the protruding shaft and use the nut to draw it out
