well im sure its cherry, anyway, about a month ago was given a log of what the person thought was cherry, cut around 15 years ago, yesterday i just a black off and turned the outside of a bowl, this morning, nice huge split down one side, i would have thought it would have dried out by now? so i was thinking of cutting it up and waxing the ends, would this be the right thing to do? and once cut and waxed how long should i leave them?

many thanks

Yes cherry moves and splits to high heaven. It is a most attractive wood and there are many types. Back in the day I worked on a nursery that grew bird cherry, wild cherry and all sorts of fancy weeping types with exotic foreign names. The cherry your turning could of been one I planted and pruned and dug up.
