he's referring to the justification the chancellor just gave in the budget speech about the underlying reason for developing the new pound coins. 30 odd % apparently are counterfeit that are currently in circulation.
 
1 in 30 (3%) not 30%. Apparently they reckon this is approx 45 million counterfeit coins in circulation
 
I don't see why they are bothering to change it.
I know that counterfeiting is wrong but the cost to rectify it is likely to be more than any loss to the government with the current situation.
 
Can you imagine the number of machines that take a one pound coin,everyone will need changing or altering in some way, every supermarket trolley etc etc, guess who will end up paying for this ? yep its you and me.
 
The fake ones used to be made from lead and were heavy and the paint came off. The ones made today are very hard to spot, the queens face may not look right and they may sink in the middle. At least the new ones can be past on.
