I need to use small amounts of hide glue for a bureau restoration that needs to be 'original' and reversible. I have the glue, but 'proper' glue pots are expensive and too large. Does anyone have experience and a recommendation for something that can be used occasionally for small quantities, preferably inexpensive and electric. e.g. a mini deep fryer:

or a wax melting pot?

Thanks, Keith

Go on Epay and buy a used Lindam? baby bottle warmer. Like this one:

Setting number 3 gets you to 145F (it's not critical). Use a baby food jar, or use 2 if you need a lot of glue. You'll probably need two bottle warmers if you want both jars ready at the same time. I've been using a bottle warmer for the glue near on 20 years, almost daily. I'm on my second Lindam.
Some bottle warmers might not reach 145.

I never use my proper cast iron pot. Get saucepan full of water and some bean tins, one tin for thicker glue, one for thinner and a tin of hot water for brushes, knives and syringes.

+1

I'm exactly where Shrubby is, I own an electric glue pot but I rarely use unless I'm doing a large hammer veneering job that'll need masses of Scotch glue. An old pan on a portable electric ring, with a few small tins in it (fill it up with tins and they won't fall over), is all you need.

Good luck!

Baby bottle warmer for me. Mine's a different brand but still gets hot enough. These are a fiver or so on eBay as no parent wants to skimp on a newborn.
