Hi,

I am going to be doing a lot of M&T joints over the next few weeks does anyone have any recommendations for a budget shoulder plane.
Does such a beast exist?
I have been looking at the L&N and Veritas models all of which would fit the bill nicely but they are just a little to much money.

Try and get yourself and old Stanley one then.

I wouldn't waste money on a cheap shoulder plane either buy a second hand Veritas, my preference, LN or Clifton. Try one 1st if you can, I bought the biggest LN and hated it, sold it and bought the Medium Veritas. Best thing I did, I'd rather shave little amounts off with a very sharp wide chisel on the tenon, and use a block plane on the shoulders,if you have one, then carefully pare the little remaining with said chisel until you can afford to buy a good one. Perhaps you could buy 2nd hand from one of the members here who has too many  ? or regrets the size they bought  ?

This is just my opinion!
