@btinternet.com e-mail hacked?

A friend had her @btinternet e-mail taken over this week by a hacker who sent e-mails out asking help to buy £100 Apple gift cards (the usual scam) - and yes, it was taken over - they had the password (she had no MFA) and she swears it was complex and unique to that account.

However, five days later she still cannot access the account - and BT are still working on it.

So the question to UK-based folks on here - has anyone else on here either had their @btinternet.com e-mail hacked this week - or received similar messages from anyone else who has?

I am wondering if there is a wider problem?

I know my mum has had issues with emails from "BT" this week with attachments that I have told her not to open.
