As a heat sink for welding repairs (though not for something as fine as this) I have used a bucket of wet sand- the sand holds everything nice and snug if well tamped and acts as an effective heat sink. I've seen panel beaters use pieces of copper or aluminium as an effective heat sink when welding thing body panels for repairs. Use some tying wire to secure some aluminium or steel bar to the the blade before burying the lot in the sand bucket and I imagine this will dissipate any unwanted heat.
