That's an unusual ruler - thirds...!
Bought it from the stationary office at Cannock mining college the first day after leaving school in 1952.
It is also marked in Sixths-Twelfths-Fours-Eights-Sixteenths and tenths. They were made to last in those days.
Our tutor gave us a list of things we would need. When using the compass if it pierced the paper he would get his magnifying glass out and tell you you had sunk a mine shaft and you had to look and see the men in the pit bottom then get a tap on the head with the ruler. :D :D Happy days.

Simon
Box catches posted this morning.

Alan.

Thankyou very much Alan, recieved the catches in the post this morning! Your generosity is very kind!

I live with my girlfriend's family in Cannock and her father is an ex-miner himself, Littleton I think was where he worked.

I saw one on an american site the other day, marked in 24ths - nearly right, if they were 25.4ths, then the ruler would match mine!

Simon,

I went to the Midlands Woodworking and Power Tool Show this past weekend and came across a firm that specialises in clock kits & parts but they also do a range of small hardware that would be suitable for box makers. They do not appear to have a website but their details are as follows:

Christopher Milner
Woodworking Supplies
Beresford Lane
Woolley Moor
Near Alfreton
Derbyshire
DE55 6FH
Tel: 01246 590062
Email: [email protected]

regards

Brian
