Do you have picture of the cramp before you installed it. Just curious as I haven’t seen one like it before a was wondering what it’s for, is it a floorboard cramp?

I think maybe the thread needs a fixed track to run in, so the dog can't wander about. Possibly. I'm not an expert.

I think the female part of the clamp needs drilling out and lock nut fixing on bench side so threaded stud spins freely, then the dog (or a carrier for a loose dog) should be tapped right through . I think you are right in principle, but I don’t want to butcher that clamp. I may have a rethink.
