Banksy mural?

I saw in the news that one of Banksy's murals has been stolen from a wall in London. Apparently it turned up in an auction house in the USA but has since been withdrawn. What I don't understand is how on earth did they steal it? It was painted onto a wall? It must have taken a lot of skill to 'chisel off' the mural without destroying it! or have I missed something? :?

I thought the same thing. From the news coverage it looked like it was a rendered wall.

How would you get the render off without breaking it?

Not sure myself but the wall it came from looked like it had new block work put in from a news clip I saw. Maybe they disked out a whole section of the wall?? If they could get through to the other side of the wall and its single skinned they could of bonded some ply to the back of the blocks to help hold it all together.
