I suppose I'll be the first of many when I say give Ian a ring at Tuffsaws, tell him what you are going to cut and he'll recommend the right blade for you.

I bought a 2 tpi blade from Ian back in January for ripping down large sections, very impressed with it.
If you are slicing logs make a sledge, cutting them freehand can be a quick way to shag a blade.

Just repeating all of the above, but putting a stronger emphasis on safety. If youre cutting a round shape on a bandsaw LOOK OUT!. It just turned sideways, ruined your blade, possibly broke your wrist (at best) and now you need new underpants.

SECURELY wedge, or even screw it to a flat edge.

Sledge ready and waiting to go just thinking of what tpi for the log slices would it be the same for the 10 in oak board he wants resawed
