If any one has an axminster 350 (or possibly bigger) bandsaw, and is struggling to remove the fence, I have found the solution.
It seems as though its the semi circular alloy casting that causes the sticking. Thats even the reply I got from axminster when I complained, but it isnt.
If you have a fine adjuster wheel on your fence, its the bolt head at the cog that is the culprit. As you tilt the fence to remove it, the bolt head jams against the toothed rack.
Remove the bolt and fit a countersunk screw, and the fence lifts on and off with ease.
You can see the old bolt and new screw here.
