Applying stains

Hello, I asked a question in buying advice about where people buy their lint free cloths from but have had no reply yet. I use them for applying stains. What methods do you all use and if using cloths where do you get yours from? I had some from Wilkos, first lot were great, next lot had more lint than you could shake a cloth at.
