A long time ago I bought a set of drills / drivers / hole cutters from B&Q

included in the kit are 3 of these - all the same size - plastic - the star shaped 'thing' inside is spring loaded.

Nothing else in the kit fits it

Any ideas?

My son just brought a Makita set with two of those in. I could't figure out what they are either.

They are a drywall adapter for the screwdriver bits. The hex part sits over the part of the driver bit that protrudes from the hex adapter. :)

Whoa that is eerie! just this afternoon I was looking at these in a set I got with my Makita and wondered how they were used? They are labelled 'screw finders' in the box. Still not sure how they are used as most screws won't fit into the hole in the end?? :?

I was puzzled by these, too - again, they came with a Makita kit. Googling 'screw finder' suggests that they are for making it easier to drive slot head screws with a power driver. They align the screw, and stop the blade from jumping out of the slot. They also protect fingers. Best used with a long bit.

There is a discussion on the Screwfix forum. Calling them 'screw finders' creates a lot of confusion.

They are not very successful at preventing over-driving drywall screws into plasterboard. DAMHIK

Best wishes

Is the correct answer :D

also after a lot of 'googling' - concensus seems to be they are a waste of time - especially in trying to find out how to use them
