Hi All,

..on my workbench (if it's possible to call thus..) I have Stanley's #3,#4,#5 and I thought to purchase a #7. But I don't know whether to see at Record #7.
What do you know about Record planes?

I would claim that for any given date a Record is better than the equivalent Stanley.

However, Bedrock Stanleys are very good (but invariably expensive).

In both Stanley and Record try to avoid later, lower quality issues.

When buying from eBay square corners on the top edge of the blade are an easy-to-spot "ball-park" indicator of earlier models - in later models they rounded the corners, which is easier on the hands, and easier to manufacture by stamping out.

modern, rounded corners on the blade:

older, square corners on the blade:

(in this case of course, the condition varies too!)
