Started a new tissue box the first this year from scratch. But this was the first newbox project for 15 months owing to injuries and health beginning of 2015. Didn't go well cut a mitre joint the wrong face on front piece, and tried to amend normal design. It would have been better to have found some new timber and started again. Around three days working around the problem so this is what happened.

Lengthened the front and back and to cover up error fitted end pieces to cover.

Then fitted end stringers see green arrow at all corners.

Finally box completed traditionally

Will have to make up my mind whether to stick with hobby woodwork owing to age and safety considerations so will make a decision to dispose of machinery.

Thanks for looking

Could just be an off day. I have off months sometimes.

That looks alright to me though, so best of luck.

My wife still has the lovely box you made on her bedside table. Thank you again.

If you don't feel safe using the machines anymore then fair enough but don't give up because you had a bad day or three, if I did that I'd be hiding in a corner for the rest of my life :D :D :D

Great innovation to over come a Billy Do! I've always been told that a true craftsman will always make errors, what defines how good they are is overcoming the problem and it looking / functioning the same or better.

I actually like your new design better than the old.

If that's how your bad days turn out, I need to come round for some tips.

My bad days usually end like this ...

I'd bite a finger off for half your skill and experience DW. Not my finger probably but someone's finger. :D I can't offer you any advice of course but if you still enjoy it then there is always a way so take heart. Your mistake is still far better work than I could hope to achieve.
I've been messing about doing up a drill lately. Apart from waiting for a brass nut to turn up in the post it's done. It just needed a touch up of the hammerite paint. So instead of waiting till tomorrow and picking up a half decent tiny brush for a quid I nicked my little lads paint brush. It was like trying to paint with a chewed stick. :|
Idiot. I now have to wait 3 days for the paint to go off so I can sand it down and do it again properly....
Keep at it DW.
Best regards
Chris

Hi DevonW

Don't give up as you make some wonderful boxes. I have bad days, but I just go home and drink beer:), forget about it and start afresh the next day or weekend.
Keep it up:)

cheers

I hope you don't quit, as others have said it is probably an off day. I wish my good days were as good as your bad ones

My first project this year, measured the sides for a mirror frame, cut to length, routed for the thickness of the mirror and back board. Was going to mark up for routing the top and bottom parts when I noticed I some how managed to cut it a LOT to short, I'm talking probably 200mm. That was when I decided to quietly pack up for the day

Last year I was cutting tenons on a project, a mate came round and I chatted to him for a bit while I marked up the opposite end and cut the tenon. After he had gone I decided to do a dry fit of the parts, (can't remember what it was I was making but I do remember this part for reasons that will be come clear). I was quite pleased with how everything went together except for one slight problem, the tenon I had marked and cut when chatting to my mate was off by 90degs

The finished box speaks for itself- it look superb. I've felt like quitting many times, but boy oh boy it feels great sticking with it ;)
