Anyone seen any 600 (or finer) grit 2" Velcro discs for wood turners? Axminster only seem to go up to 400 and one other supplier wanted £5.99 postage.

Straying a little but what are you turning that needs 600 grit Rotary Sanding, I'm presuming an acrylic or lacquer finish.

Would not a Burnishing Cream or Buffing Mop be a better option.

I've certainly never come across a wood that has fine enough grain to see any benefit from going that low and some woods even go into a lack of bonding of applied finish if polished to that level.

Just restocking depleted supplies at the moment so if you think 400 is fine enough I'll go for that. Thanks.

Just me, and others will certainly disagree but I only once in a blue mood go below 240 grit (sanding with the grain) I've got 400-600 grit in rolls that have been hanging in the store long enough for the rubber containment bands to have perished.

[urlhttp://www.hopewoodturning.co.uk/discs_20.html]Simon Hope[/url] sells 600 grit discs.

I can't remember where I got it but I also have a supply of Rhynogrip 800 and 1200 grits. I tend to use them for lightly sanding back between coats of oil and sometimes use them to apply the oil itself.
Most times I stop at 400. I pretty much exclusively turn UK timbers and tend not to buff.

I've actually got some Abranet but I don't know if I've got 600. I'll give what I have a try and see how it works. Thanks.

Don't try and use Abranet on your Velcro Disc Pads. It grips fine but you will ruin your Pads as the 'teeth' protrude through the Abranet and get abraded off.
