The height of the saddle has an effect on the leverage of the strings on the saddle and the volume of the instrument. The height above the fretboard is also important for ease of play so yes, increase the thickness of your fretboard, or add as many veneers as necessary, until you get a sensible saddle height.

I hope u never took offence Ian...I appreciate all help on this
this will be a hotch botch ...but i am hoping at least it will function

i have the scary bit to do soon...cutting fret slots and drilling the side markers and routing underneath to take the optics
and then make a saddle \ bridge

i will probably find someone local to tune & string it before i give it away
