Hi everyone, i'm about to finish making a console table made with solid maple frame / legs and solid wenge top. I'm trying to find a suitable finish and would like a fairly hardwearing satin finish that will be easy to maintain.

I've thought about:
Danish oil which i've used on different woods before.
Raw linseed oil, which i've read is good for hard close grain wood ie the maple
Osmo Polyx Oil, which i thought would be perfect but is not suitable for the wenge top apparently.

Any ideas would be apprieciated, should i consider two different finishes for the two types of wood?

Thanks

thanks for the replies.

I tried some liberon finishing oil on a bit of wenge and also some Ronseal ultratough satin clear varnish. With the oil the contrast between the colours in the wood was reduced and the it looked like i'd applied a dark stain :( ie way too dark!

The varnish was perfect, it showed up the different colours in the wenge well and didn't darken an already dark wood more.

Any disadvantages to this varnish? Most posts here describe more 'natural' oil and wax finishes.
