Scheppach Basata 3 Vario - does anyone have a user manual/

AHhh thanks a lot. It's not the best of manuals, but then in my opinion it's also not much of a saw!! I can't say I've used it much - I don't remember it costing me the earth when I bought it second had some time ago - back then, I'd just started out in this hobby. Originally, I'd hoped to...

Just a thought - why don't we have a workshop build forum

It seems that this forum - because of the catch-all title, and perhaps because the majority of people like me don't actually really produce enough proper projects to post new threads/photos, but this forum seems increasingly to be about workshop builds. This is absolutely not a criticism of...

    Best ebony stain?

THanks for all the replies. I am not convinced I want to purchase Ebony - for many of the reasons stated above, plus the fact that I just don't think the quality of my work is worth buying ebony (and the postage)! I'm very intrigued by the walking sticks comment.... I will keep an eye out!

Festool vouchers - dust extractor and 18v tools

Morning all, Not sure if they are transferable, but as a "valued Festool customer" (by which they really mean my credit card company!!) I received two vouchers for £50 off either any Festool dust extractor, or anything from their 18v tool range. I won't be using them, but can pop them in the...

Radial arm saw - are they worth having?

Personally I found mine a pain to set up to keep square in relation to the table top and you can't rip. With limited space, a table-saw serves me far better and I was glad to have sold mine.

    Staining Ash to resemble Oak

THanks folks - I'll see if I get time to have a play this weekend. I have been given a tin of Liberon Bison Wax - Medium Oak. Although It's a good point well raised about messing about with the cost and time involved with wax and stain when I could just go get some from the merchant....

    Staining Ash to resemble Oak

Morning all, A friend wanted some simple kitchen shelves made - nothing fancy, but he did ask for Oak. I have a load of Ash in stock that is the right size and would make my life easier than having to buy anything new. Any advice on a good durable finish suitable for shelves, which will also...

    Volunteering to do favours...

"Any chance you could help with some simple shelves in our alcoves?" "Of course, not a problem." - set of cabinet door framing bits (£70) - for the alcove CUPBOARDs that were then decided upon.... - new round-over bit (£30).... for the shelves that were going to be square-edged originally...

Wood as energy leads to timber price increase?

Interesting article discussing short-sighted energy policy leading to an increase in wood as energy source, with a potential impact on timber prices: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15756074 Not sure if this will really ever translate to the humble DIY er but an interesting discussion...

    Mr mdf face frame

You won't regret that - I used Poplar for my kitchen onboard our boat - it machined and painted up lovely, but I was worried as to how resilient it would be as it's such a small space it gets more abuse - and it's really held up well. five years on and I may finally need to give it a fresh coat...

HVLP spraying of MDF / Poplar - primer?

Thanks Davey - I feared as much! I do have two sets of alcove shelves and another set of full height shelves to do so was thinking that the messing about getting things right would be worth it when there is that much to do still....even if only the primer.

HVLP spraying of MDF / Poplar - primer?

Hi Oakfield - which one do you use? I spoke to a chap at Morrells in High Wycombe and he spoke about a "pre-cat primer" - when i look online they do two sorts in the water-bourne range. There's a high-solids white, which in the description it references use on MDF, or there is a White...
