Table saw blades - can anybody help with reccomendations?

Many thanks, that's very helpful to know, I think I'll go for it & see how I get on - at any rate it should perform better than the blade which came with my Metabo TS250.

Table saw blades - can anybody help with reccomendations?

I'm considering a freud combination blade (LP30M) for mainly ripping 2" exotic hardwoods, would a dedicated ripping blade leave noticeably better finish?... I like the thought of a dual purpose blade, but not if it's going to leave me with more work!

What do you do with your chippings/ sawdust?

Chuck a good handful on the barbie, really gives a great flavor. Some people soak them but I find this isn't necessary if you put plenty on and the charcoal isn't too hot (past it's best is best), but they will go up eventually so keep your tongs handy - even better if you have a BBQ with a lid...

    Orbital Sanding (Metabo SXE 450)

A couple of questions regarding my Metabo SXE 450 sander; Does anyone ever use it WITHOUT the turbo boost function? I use it to sand wood and I can't see why I'd ever use it on the 'slow' setting, maybe that's for sanding something much softer like filler or plaster?..... It seems to me that it...

    Nice white woods...

Thanks for all the replies. I've used Lime but found it pretty dull TBH, I believe Ash has a coarse grain which wouldn't really work for what I need it for..... I'll have a go at Maple or try to find some nice thick hornbeam

    Nice white woods...

As I tend to use exotics I have very limited knowledge of native woods. I'm looking for some nice white wood suitable for carving, it doesn't have to be native but it need to be a white as possible and available in nice sized lumps. I've used Holly & Hornbeam in the past - lovely woods to work...

    Carving 'Pakkawood' ??

Has anyone tried carving 'Pakkawood' or 'Dymondwood'? I'd be interested in having a go, but I've only seen it available in small pieces for making knife handles or pens.....

Bandsaw woes and Tuffcut blades mini-review

I'd just like to second that; I'm delighted Ian is back in business and look forward to buying blades from him in the future - the blades he supplied me with in the past were superior to the (very good) Hakansson silco blades I'd been using for years, and the service I received was second to none...

    Dust extraction; Connections

I've got some lovely old dust extraction units from P&J and would like to make better use of them. In particular, I'd like to set up a complete workshop system for once and for all! At present I simply place the 4" collection hose close to 'the action', which works ok at sucking the fine dust...

To grease or not to grease? - SDS drill bit

Well that just about sums it up! I'm sure the grease I used in the first chuck damaged the rubber seal leading to the failure, I'll use a light grease that doesn't react with rubber in the future, I'm sure I've seen something in the motor trade. Other than that the drill has been superb at...

To grease or not to grease? - SDS drill bit

I've been using a Metabo SDS drill for a while but am unsure whether to grease the sds bit or not - When I bought the drill I greased every time, but after a few months hard work the end cap of the sds chuck popped off. It seems the grease had made the rubber seal very soft & sticky, and this...

Old Startrite - bandwheel hub bearings advice

I think it's time for some new bearings for my 14-s-1 band saw, the manual specifies Hoffmann N7216 but a search for something equivalent has drawn a blank. Someone has also written WTWR102 and KSK7R10 in the manual, but again google wasn't able to find anything along those lines... I'm just...

    Wooden floor finishes - France

I had no problems with the oak floor I did - I imagine it would stain if water was allowed to rest on the surface for a while, but I mopped my floor from time to time with no damage done. I've just found the tin - on the back there is a note saying it is possible to reinforce the wax protection...

    Wooden floor finishes - France

I prefer to use a liquid wax on flooring - I had some great results with Spado Cire Liquide (which was called St Wandrille until recently) - it is about 1/3rd the price of Liberon and widely available in nearly all the bricolage outlets. Having said that, I'm going to try the Liberon liquid wax...

Best bandsaw blades for exotic hardwoods

I've been using Hakansson silco blades for years but they are impossible to buy in France and expensive to get shipped from the uk (or Sweden!), so I was wondering if anyone would recommend an alternative brand. I cut a variety of exotic hardwood for an average 1 - 2 hours per day, normally...

    Startrite 14-s-1 Bandsaw - Problems!!

Thanks for the reply Bob, I checked the motor & pulley and they spin as you mentioned, and since the re-wire I haven't experienced to motor stopping (although it has had only very light use) - I did run it for about 20 minutes & checked the motor which was just warm to the touch. I also put...

    Startrite 14-s-1 Bandsaw - Problems!!

My dear old startrite (running on single phase 240v) is starting to play up - it will run fine for 4 or 5 minutes & then stops. It will nor re-start unless I wait a few minutes. I have heard it may be the danfoss overload switch, and after re-wiring the main connections this does make one hell...

    Best Tool I Ever Bought

Influenced by a current post I've been thinking about the best tool I ever bought... there have been so many... My Metabo UHE28 multi drill gives me a warm glow as I open the case, it exudes a loyalty almost as if it doesn't want to let me down - maybe it's in the advertising blurb...

...and now for the mitre saw stand...

Nice to see a consensus of opinion!... As I mentioned in my previous post I'm new to mitre sawing, having gotten by in the past with my bandsaw & circular saw, so what to look out for in things like a stand isn't immediately obvious, other than what is actually obvious! - I always try & get the...

...and now for the mitre saw stand...

I need a lightweight portable stand for my newly acquired LS0714 - the dewalt DE7023 looks just the job, if a little expensive - it is described as 'universal', fitting 'all dewalt and most competitors saws' - before I plunge I'd like to be sure it'll be compatible with my makita - does anyone...
