Table saw needed for small workshop. Got a budget of £500.

Another vote for and old Wadkin, for £500 you should be able to get a good one possibly with a sliding table. You don't say if you have three phase but if you do, this looks great http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wadkin-saw-AG ... 1041960454

    Must be auction fever!

Anybody who doesn't check the new price of anything still available is an silly person. Ebay has some wonderful bargains but that doesn't mean it's always the cheapest. Caveat emptor.

best sliding Mitre saw 2nd fixing

I've got a Makita LS1013, it's large, heavy and expensive but it's also very accurate, robust and reliable. You should be able to get a really good condition second hand one within your budget. You won't regret it.

    leylandii tree removal

You need someone with a big shredder. Getting rid of the wood will be easy on freecycle and the greenery will go too if it's been shredded.

    What wood for bookcases

Hmmm, not sure about the torsion box shelves. As you say it's going to be a lot of work (and my time does have some value) but it will also men thicker shelves which would make the whole thing rather too chunky. If I use 25mm MRMDF for the vertical parts how deep should I make the rebates for...

    What wood for bookcases

Hi All I've asked this in another place but having browsed for longer, it may be better to ask here. I'm planning to make a wall to wall bookcase which will be painted but I'm not sure what wood to use for the construction. Obviously needs to be cost effective but most important is the shelves...

Help needed with old Sedgwick PT

I don't think the chain is stretched, I suspect that it was slightly too long when the new motor was fitted and can't be adjusted properly. I've ordered a motorbike chain splitter so I can take a link out.

Help needed with old Sedgwick PT

Thanks for replies. Yes I removed the cover to check the motor ratings. The seller had a 13A plug with a nail in place of the fuse!

Help needed with old Sedgwick PT

Hi All I've just bought an old Sedwick planer thicknesser on ebay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110971741884). It's been converted from three phase to single phase with a 13A 2.2kW motor for the knives and a .5kW motor for the feed roller. It needs a bit of tlc so first I'd like to identify which...

    Rutlands.

Just got this reply from Rutlands:- Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately this isn't the case. We cannot obtain any more machines at all and therefore you new back-order has been cancelled. We have a number of obsolete products to remove from the website over the coming weeks. I apologise for...

    Rutlands.

I ordered a bench grinder from Rutlands that was on offer on the first of November. Four weeks later there was no sign of it, so I emailed them, and they replied saying they were unable to supply it. However, two weeks later, they're still advertising the same deal so I've ordered another one...

    Housing joint advice required

Hi all I'm planning to build a large built-in book case with several fixed shelves. It will have a number of housing joints at decreasing distances. When I've done this before setting out and clamping router guides was very laborious especially as I didn't have an 18mm router bit and had to make...

    a question for you all

If you mean you're going to make stuff for money then legally you have to declare it on a tax return form. Everything has to be declared and you will be taxed on your total income. If you're paid cash and don't declare it you'll be breaking the law but it would be difficult to detect small amounts

    Garage insulation

I'd use 50mm Celotex or Kingspan. If you look for seconds you can find it for £10/sheet I'd leave it flush with the face of the 'beams' so there's a gap behind it, but that might not provide adequate ventilation. If you have a vapour barrier on the hot side of the insulation you can prevent warm...
