    Which saw for shed build.

If your Framing a shed you will not need a mitre saw, your hand held circular saw will be just fine as long as it operates properly and has enough power. Trying to cut lengths of timber for studs, rafters, joists etc would be a right pain in the ass on a mitre saw, trust me! As long as you...

    dewalt plunge saw

Thanks Andy! I am a sucker for good quality tools so i do think i'd regret not getting the festool as it just seems oozing with quality which i have never seen from a dewalt tool. While were on this subject could someone explain the best way to cut from when cutting worktops with these plunge...

    dewalt plunge saw

So as a site worker, custom homes and refurbs, extensions etc the Dewalt would be ok for me? I do really like the features of the Festool and it seems there is so many accesories for it. Does the Dewalt have that stop that you tighten onto the track at the position you want the blade to cut...

    TS55 competition ...... Dewalt DWS520 & Makita SP6000K1

Has anyone had a look at these new plunge saws? Dewalt looks good with its paralell plunge action. I guess they are just copying the ts55 but is that still the one to go for now these new models are out?? http://www.dewalt.co.uk/ontrack/UK/index.html http://www.dm-tools.co.uk/product.php/s ...

    Working Spindle spacings for staircase?

I assume most new 'turned newels' come with a 50mm dowel turned on the end? So you mean put a cut in this and use like a 48/9mm drill bit to drill the base newel and it will tighten up the further in it goes. Another good trick with the spindles but wouldnt you be getting the diagonal spacings...

    Working Spindle spacings for staircase?

Right handrail fixing methods now... Just spotted these http://www.stairplan.com/stelten.htm They look excellent and i think would be very sturdy but i know the traditional way is to M+T and draw dowel. But really trying to manouver a length of handrail into mortices while one newel post is...

    Working Spindle spacings for staircase?

Chippy, Thanks. I didn't know about the newel post add ons ill have a look into them. I guess they come with a 50mm dowel already in the bottom of them and all you have to do is drill the existing, glue and tap on? There are so many methods for spindles i'm trying to find the most accurate and...

    Working Spindle spacings for staircase?

I have been asked to install newel posts, handrail and spindles onto an existing staircase which has short stubbie newel posts and im assuming a mopstick style handrail screwed to the wall. I was thinking of doweling the new newel posts down on the old short ones with lots of glue. Although i...

My new Elektra Beckum KGS 331 Mitre saw.

I've just received my new mitre saw, an Elektra Beckum KGS 331 with induction motor. Im really loving it everything is so smooooth and it cuts so positivly and silently with an 80t Axminster blade i threw on it. The induction motor really makes this saw. One thing i feel could be improved is...

    Poor service from Tool-Net.co.uk & DIYTools.co.uk

Imo i'd steer clear of the bosch. I have had the gks65 for a few months and dont really rate it for the cost of the thing. There seems to be a bit of play in the blade like the motor bearings aren't tight. And the motor doesnt seem very smooth its sounds rattly. Ive now got a hitachi c9u and...

There is always timber stacked up around the Forest. We are lucky though as my brother works for the Forestry Commision and gets big lumps of various wood for my dad to turn.

    Pine Bed Finshing advice needed.

Im nearly finished making a pine bed for myself but am not sure on what finish to go with? I was thinking of a spray on Sanding sealer to start with but not sure what else to do with the wood. I dont want a dark finish and dont want to use a liquid wood stain as i find them messy and blotchy...
