    Anyone taped internal OSB joints?

I´v used Siga tape on OSB joints and around windows and doors to make a sealed joint on passive houses. But its not a finished surface, after testing, the walls are plated up with plasterboard and that is your finished surface. I have been told that 3m all weather flashing tape will do the...

    Titan planer leaving a bow

I don´t know this maker but the disscription of the end result on the stock says to me that the blades are not set right. Rational thinking would tell you that when both tables are coplaner the blades should just touch the stock. But planers are not made like that,to test it with the machine...

Regular Mortice Chisel or Bevel Edged for your Mortices

Just somthing to help people to remember the different parts of the joint and where they go. "If you put your head down a rabbit hole your cheeks will touch the sides but your shoulders will stop you falling in" When I set the gauge for mortice and tenons I always stick a piece of masking tape...

    "French cleat" or something else?

DoctorWibble has it spot on I originaly Know this as split batten and thats 50 years ago. I think that French cleat is a americanism. A cleat is a bracket where you make a line fast on a boat or ship but the idea that you would use these battens to make lockers fast on a boat is really idiotic...

    Practical tips for beginners.

Earlyer some one mentioned having a mirror in the shop I keep a small one in a draw and when useing a brace and bit at the bench place it a couple of feet to my right side, because when useing a brace and bit either plumb or square to the bench you can see only in one direction if its true. But...

    Hinge thingy

If its a tool chest you could always go old skool and fit a chain to the lid and the side of the box. Make the chain long enough for the lid to go past the tipping point and when you close the lid the chain just drops inside.

Work bench legs - best way to fix a mishap!

If the leg is a 4" x 4" cut a 4" half lap in the leg and fasten them together with two off set square cup head bolts and it will go no where, Place the leg at the back out of sight and if any one see's it just say it was from long John Silver.

    Coach bolts - best practise?

If its a hex head drill the hole and then put the bolt in and tap it with a hammer you will have the shape to chisel out. If its a square cup head drill the hole smack it with a hammer and let the nut pull it home.

    Forkstaff plane

Well done Andy a very interesting and educational post. I must admit I`ve owned one for years but I`ve only ever known it as a spar plane. I live and learn. By the by mine has no backing iron on it and is not so coffin shaped, I don`t know if that means any thing.

    Decent hex bits?

The hex bit drivers that you find for not mutch, are usually not worth mutch. The named sets in a small box usually with a bit holder are of better quality but it will depend on who's useing them. One of the problems is that not all pozi drives are pozi drives they could be philips, on first...

    footprint bevel edge chisel

Yes footprint have allways been the victim of tool snobery. I was issued with a set of footprint firmers in my Apprentices tool kit way back in the 60's. They took a good edge and hold it well, there's not much more you can ask from a chisel really. The original handles where made out of beech...

    yankee screwdriver bits

Claus I think you will find that the driver sold by leevalley and fine-tools are the same tool, made by the firm Schoder in Wuppertal. The differance between the Yank and the Schroder is that the yank is a push fit for the bit and the Schroder is a chuck that has to be turned down to hold the...
