Hi,
Does anyone know where I can buy some small (approx 1cm diameter) metal ferules? I am making some new gravers for carving and have turned a couple up so far and want to finish them off with a ferule, I used to have a few from when I made my original gravers 40yrs ago but cannot find them.
Cheers
Brian

If you can't find any suitable pipe consider doing a wire wrap. Wraps like this are surprisingly strong, even thread would do it with enough winds!

But IME you don't always need a ferrule. If the wood is tough enough and the metal is set into the handle deep enough the risk of splitting is actually quite small. You can go one step further and orient the grain to minimise the chances but looking at many production tools this extra care doesn't appear to be needed in practice.

Small brass water fittings or in this case small welding fittings I got two from one fitting costing about a duce.
