Jet AFS-500 air filter PCB repair – help please.

This is still a problem. I bought my AFS-500 in July 2014. Died in November 2016. The PCB was replaced by Axminster free of charge. The replacement board was the one shown above, with the yellow C1. Died for the second time a couple of days ago. I bought the capacitor from the ebay seller whose...

    Lathe - (CL4 Issues )

Is this the Record VSLK unit? If so, the Lenze error codes that you might be seeing are cF or CF. They both mean that there is invalid data on the electronic programming module. cF is "Data not valid for controller". CF is "Data error" Either way, that suggests that your controller might have...

    Tea lights

This came up in a previous thread. I have discussed this issue with a senior retired fire officer who, in his earlier service years, attended tea light fires, one of which was fatal. His comment - he can't think of anything better to put under and round a tea light than wood - it does not catch...

    8 Piece Marples turning set

If they are in the box, there should be no problem identifying them (although the handles will give a good clue, too). It will say "woodturning" on the lid. Marples did sets of 3 (M1005), 6 (M1001) and 8 (M1002) woodturning chisels. I've had an M1001 set for at least 45 years and they are a nice...

    Anyone got a Record CL3 or CL4

Yes, a CL4. Have you adjusted the plain bearing? That can make a ticking noise if it is a bit loose. You'll need a brass drift. Do you oil it every time you use it? As already mentioned, check the pulley grub screws and pulley alignment. If they become loose a pulley can drift along the...

    Re: Lathe problem

Doesn't that depend on the lathe? On the CL3/4 by far the quickest and simplest way of getting centres or chucks out of the tailstock is to use a knocking rod.

    Dream lathe

I spent 3 days with Tobias Kaye a few years ago when he was still teaching. 3 days on a VB 36. A wonderful machine. He had photos of the bathtub he turned on one of his. A bit big for pen turning.

    Eucalyptus ..

It can be an interesting wood. It contains a lot of water when freshly felled and distorts a lot as it dries. The usual allowance for green turning is far too little. This is a 12 inch diameter bowl. It's only half an inch thick, but the green-turned blank was a couple of inches thick, and very...

Remote or foot control for Record CL4

This thread https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/reversing-the-record-cl4-t92686.html describes the wiring and function of the controller on the CL4. All you need is a normally-on, momentary-off pushbutton switch wired in series with the existing stop button. You could fit a jack socket with a...

It's not in a dusty environment. It's inside a metal case with a sealing gasket which is not intended to be opened in normal use.

Record CL3 - new or new old stock?

Just a small question. Why does anybody think a sealed ball bearing is better than an adjustable plain bearing? The Rolls Royce of lathes, the VB36, uses plain bearings, albeit rather bigger than that in the CL lathes. Of course, plain bearings require more accurate machining than ball bearings...

Best value/performance 2" sanding discs for bowl sanding

I use 115mm wide rolls, which is just about perfect for a 50mm pad. It's Rhynogrip Plus. I've not had any problems with 80 grit escaping from the pad.

    rp4000 jaws fit sc4 chuck?

Looks like Toolpost's VersaChuck will suit your needs http://www.toolpost.co.uk/pages/Chucks_ ... chuck.html The site says that it is compatible They sell chuck body and carriers separately, so you can build your chuck to suit your jaws (and add other makers' jaws later if you want to)

    Suggestions for piece of burr

I mounted my 8 inch diameter acacia burr on a small faceplate with thin screws, then used PVA to glue crumbs of bark into the holes when the job was finished. They are invisible. The finish on the turned surface is oil. The bark is sealed with a single coat of Rapidclear, a marine varnish which...

Record VSLK kit - What's the Verdict?

I've just looked at my CL4 and the assembly instructions for the CL3 and CL4. The motor plate illustrated in the instructions does, indeed, have only three mounting holes, but the motor plate for the CL4 has four. Presumably it is possible to buy a CL4 plate from Record as a spare part. They...

Record VSLK kit - What's the Verdict?

Odd. Are you sure that the second hand one was actually intended for a Record lathe? The Haydock website specifically says that they provide conversions for all Record lathes. There's a photo of the CL2/3 conversion on this page http://www.haydockconverters.co.uk/lath ... n_kits.htm
