    Octopus Agile Outgoing

something went a bit wrong with my post. Then end bit should read: They won't let you combine it with there other variable rate products like Octopus Go as they don't want you to import at their lowest rate and then export back at their highest rate - Can't imagine why ; < ) It's never going...

    Octopus Agile Outgoing

Yes it seems to work ok. Only been on it since last August. In my case the early hours of the day are taken up recharging my batteries so in the winter I haven't earned a lot especially as the low winter sun is not ideal for generating when the rates start to rise toward evening. But the rate...

    WorkBenches

30 odd years ago Sjoberg used to sell the tops on their own for you to build a base for. Much cheaper and mine's still going strong! Not sure if they or any other company still do this. Cheers, Tom

    Moderators

+1 for appreciation. The mods seem to have got the balance right with a light touch approach most of the time and the occasional hint of steel when needed. Many thanks to you all

Hogmanay gifts and questions about dining chairs

+1 for the Alan Peters chairs - they look much more complicated than they actually are to do and are very comfortable although we do use cushions rather than sitting directly on the slats. As a caveat I made mine from the first edition of the book (1986) and I see there has been a second...

    Pension

Hi, another happy Hargreaves Lansdowne customer here. They can also advise on investments (but they will charge you for it), although I have relied on my own ideas. They publish lots of research and articles on their website to help you find your way through. Good luck, Tom

    Leadwood Desk

Hi Custard Thanks for doing this WIP, it's always helpful to an amateur like me to hear what the professionals do and why they do it that way. Cheers, Tom

    Discount at Axminster?

I think you are being slightly unfair in comparing Axminster's price in store (or with free delivery) with Power tools price excluding delivery (pick up in store does not seem to be an option with them especially as they are hundreds of miles from Kent). Looking at their site their delivery...

most comfortable boots with steel toe caps?

Hi Mark Have you tried these people http://www.widefitshoes.co.uk/men/wide-safety-boots/? I got some lightweight* safety boots from here (sorry can't remember the brand) and they are super comfy but not cheap though at about £70. Cheers, Tom * crush proof composite toe rather than steel toe cap

Seasoned Oak in Hampshire, West Sussex.

I have used both English Woodlands Timber (I think this is the EWT referred to by woody2shoes) and W L West near Midhurst and both have plenty of oak. in my experience they are very welcoming to smaller buyers such as myself. Cheers, tom

    Boat building

Ian Oughtred is a well respected designer for home built boats. Hear is a link to Classic Marine who sell his and other designers plans https://classicmarine.co.uk/boatlists/planindex.htm Good luck with the build - it is something I have always wanted to do and maybe will some day although...

    New Old Inca

And because there's no crown you set the blades up so points are just clear of the rubber on the wheels to avoid damaging it so ignore any of the advice you see to set the blade halfway across the rubber. Lovely machines, I bought mine new 30 odd years ago and it is still going as well as ever...

    Electric chainsaw

I've got a makita which I use for cross cutting logs and preparing turning blanks. Seems plenty powerful enough for me, reasonably quiet and I can use it in the workshop if it's cold and wet outside!

    Inca Bandsaw.

Assuming you are talking about the Inca 260 they are not particularly heavy as the table is aluminium rather than cast iron. The main weight is in the motor. However I would suggest that they need to be bolted down for safety as the base is quite narrow which may make them less portable than...

    Building the Lingerie Chest

Hi Derek Like many others I have been following this thread with great admiration for your skill and the effort you have put into the build, including the clear explanations you have put out here and on your blog. Regarding sanding have you thought of a large pad such as this...

    Axminster show discounts

+1 for negotiate in shop especially if buying a fair bit in one go. Suggest you don't try it when the shop is busy though as, in my case, it seemed to involve discussions with the manager rather than being something the sales guy could do off his own bat. Good luck. Cheers, Tom
