    Wanted - Old 1950's - 1960's Table Saw

The Royal was a British made tilting table saw and very good too. The other one very highly thought of was the Inca cabinet makers saw. These saws were common, you posters are making me feel mature.

    Ally Pally Show Thoughts...

There is one quality show in the UK and that is The Great Northern at Harrogate in november. If you do not do shows, go to that, there are a diversity of stalls, everyone is friendly and they are willing to do deals. Happen that is the way of we northern folk, honest and true to give us our due.

    Ally Pally tomorrow (Saturday)

That show was quite the worst I have encountered and I have been going since the Horticultural Hall days. Specifically, there were no stands selling the general run of quality hand tools, the professional accessories power tool stands were a token effort and large areas were devoted to the...

    Bandsaw Blades

I buy from the Bedford Tool & Saw Co and use metal cutting blades for wood. This was the advice of a well known woodworker many years ago and it works very well indeed. A bonus is the blades last. My saw is a Startrite 14 s of good age.

    Triton TRA001

Could it be that you are overtightening the collet? The Great Northern is on at Harrogate this weekend so that would be a good place to ask of someone face to face.

    Any update on US router?

Having just read Charleys comments I simply wonder if he had asked if there was a 230 volt option before purchase? Also see www.stacey-campbell.com for reassurance on universal motors. I think Ryobi have reintroduced their mini biscuit joiner in the US and wish I had bought one when it was sold...

    Book Worm

On of the best books to own in my opinion is The Woodworkers Bible by Alf Martensson, it covers just about everything and is safety concious. American authors on the other hand pay lip service to those aspects yet use token guarding and inappropiate fences.

Anyone going to Harrogate on Friday?

No bargains to be had? Last year I got the Festo Domino price down and a box of "tenons" value a hundred odd thrown in. Did not buy it though, I just have a lot of routers and a fair number of ways to do what the Domino does. I have been going to Harrogate many years and always have a good time...

Postal buying of tools within E.U>

Sorry but I did not make my point clear. Many tools are far more expensive here than in the country of origin, but if you try to import them by post you pay duty and VAT based on the UK price of the same item, or so I have understood. The news item relating to booze and fags made the price at...

Postal buying of tools within E.U>

I wonder if the latest E.U. ruling re booze and cigs will also apply to the purchase of tools from, say, Germany or other countries? I don't see why not.

    Wire, Pipe and Stud detector

These things are a nightmare as far as I am concerned because I reckon they are designed for the timber framed building market. I now have bought the £50 odd Bosch from Axminster, because it can be set to give a reading at a pre-set depth. The previous useless tools would sound off no matter...

Shortly to be a death in the family!

Just for future reference, rebooting in safe mode and then doing a system restore should repair drivers. A normal s/r will not.

    Iroko for workbench???

The only problem may be the glueability (new word) of the timber, and I prefer a bench top to be of a wood softer than the wood used for projects. Otherwise there is a risk of dings in the work. Iroko splinters are not very nice either.

    lifting gear Help!!!

That was a quick decision. Many years back I made a sewing table which incorporated a disappearing machine on a platform which lowered automatically to allow a lid to slide across. It was a purpose made commercial fitting and may still be available.

    Festool Prices

With regard to this particular tool, has anyone considered the following points? 1. It is a single purpose and single format instrument requiring purchase now and in the future of special cutters and inserts. 2. It is expensive in the first place and then is a good money sink for the future...
