Wanted Sorted now thanks to all ....Single Phase Bandsaw

Hi, if you are still looking for a bandsaw I have a Jet 20” trade rated bandsaw that’s just been sitting idle since my work went off in a new direction last year. I don’t know the model number off the top of my head but if you’re interested I’ll pop up the workshop in Pontypool and get some...

    Bandsawing green wood

I cut green logs all day and use 1/2" Conquest blades with extra set from Hamilton Beverstock in Cwmbran, fantastic blades for the job. I use their 3/4" ones with normal set for ripping. May be worth a call..

    Lucky boy!

It's six inches in diameter and was going at about 1050 rpm so not a million miles from the recommended max speed. As an aside, the 3M Versaflo face mask has arrived and I can only say what a fantastic piece of kit it is. A bit pricey but the sense of security I get now with it on is huge...

    Lucky boy!

Now I am in possession of the said mask, I don't think it would have completely prevented any injury but I have to say I reckon there would have been a lot less facial damage. I would still have taken a tremendous whack on the head but it would have no doubt helped to soften the blow. I tried to...

    Lucky boy!

Thanks for all the good wishes. It wasn't posted by an inexperienced kid with little working background, I'm a time served machinist and have been since the late 80's. I posted it to remind everyone how easily these things can happen. I had been discarding pieces I thought were unsuitable due to...

    Lucky boy!

It just split on me unexpectedly. I can't remember seeing a dangerous crack in the piece when I mounted it but clearly it wasn't stable enough to turn.

    Lucky boy!

I consider myself one very lucky boy after a mishap in the workshop yesterday. Last week I took delivery of a quantity of green oak pieces, 400mm x 150 x 150 for a project and started turning them into their finished forms. I was a bit apprehensive about turning such a large quantity, 800 all...

    Interesting experiment!

Don't burn it, who is to say it should be? That's not a particularly helpful post IMHO

    Fox Machinery

This is in no way meant to be anything other than a big thank you to Terry at Fox Machinery for the excellent customer service I received from him recently. Had an RAS that I broke a part on and although they didn't have the part in stock, he remembered it and sent it to me when they had one...

    Sanding Plate

I made a disc with an old aluminium disc and just used sticky back sandpaper. Worked a treat. Make sure you get some decent extraction though cos it really chucks out the dust

    First Lathe

Good effort, lovely finish. I am all for the chunky look aswell. Turning super thin is all very nice but of all the bowls I've done in the past, the thinner ones which took more time and effort to produce were always overlooked by friends and family. My finest thin bowl was in oak and if I do...

Hi Dilwyn, did you manage to get it going again? Mike

    Most painful mistake??

Just a thought, how about posting relatively clean stories of any slips or accidents you have had so as to give others here the benefit of your painful experiences? I reckon it would highlight the errors which we all recognise after the event and hopefully will lead to the rest of us taking note...
