I have a new Record Power Coronet Herald lathe and am looking for a quality chuck to suit, could you advise as to which one to go for, there seems so many too choose from. Regards, Tony.

You'll probably get more answers if you asked this in the woodturning section.
I have chucks from Axminster, Record & unknown make. My favourite is the unknown because of the square chuck key. The Record chuck key has to be inserted via a hole in the body which makes it awkward to locate properly, but the chuck is very light. The Axminster has a tight spot in the carrier movement. Axminster's solution is to get the user to file them down but is otherwise ok.
Look at the range of jaws that are available for each of the makes. That may sway your opinion.

Would not a heavy chuck be an advantage with the inertia helping to keep what you are working on spinning?

Mike
