Watching the chaser on TV. A uni graduate is answering the questions.

Question; "what is the only known planet in the universe to contain life?"
Confident answer (after 2 seconds concentrated thought) "Mars".

Maybe they meant 'intelligent life', to which the answer would not have been Earth.

Mars was as good a guess as any.

On pointless the other day a uni student answered Paris when asked to name a country ending in 2 constanants.

A while back the question a gave a location and date and the contestant had to say who was asassinated then. The answer given to Dallas in 1963 was JR!!

I have a friend who is the greatest all round quiz player I have ever met, his general knowledge is probably about three times mine, and mine is good. He went on 15 to 1 and went out in three questions, all of which he knew the answer to but didn't remember in time. He always maintained that people who have never been under those spotlights should keep their opinions to themselves as they have no idea what it is like.

If that was really the question, then it's a stupid one.
I would imagine it was more like "Which is the only planet in our solar system known to contain life"

On Pointless last week one of the questions was, name a country with its last two letters being consonants. A 3rd year Student at Warwick University answered Paris.Even the two hosts of the show had trouble stopping themselves laughing.Sorry just seen that Johnboy had already put the same post.

Not as stupid as the effort of David Lammy MP on Mastermind....well worth looking up on Youtube.

I agree, I can do well in conversation, put me on the spot though and I often go blank.

I'm of the opinion that anyone who is reasonably intelligent is unlikely to want to appear on tv. I'd hate being recognised everywhere I went and not being able to go out for a quiet dinner without people asking for selfies etc.

There was a primary school teacher on The Chase a few weeks back who said that he had never heard of "Isambard Kingdom Brunel". I have noticed on The Chase that there is often a bias towards the specialisation of the Chaser. Just see how many medical or human biology questions come up when Paul Sinha (who is a former doctor) is The Chaser. I also suspect that there is an extensive rehearsal period during which the programme makers will assess the contestants own strengths and weaknesses and the questions will reflect those.

On one occasion when Bradley Walsh told a contestant who had gone for the middle figure that he would have had 3 opportunities to play for the larger figure, the contestant just shrugged and said "they would have been different questions". I'm sure he was right.

Did you see the episode of Pointless where in the final they thought the best answer in a question about elements was Unobtainium!

My all time favourite is from the Weakest Link. Question - what T was the means of escape from Colditz during WW2?
