wtl12 lathe

I have an oldish Draper wtl12 lathe and have just purchased a nova G3 chuck only to find that it will not screw on all the way due to it catching the indexing pin. Is it a hard job to remove the indexing pin it doesn't look to bad but not being engineer minded I would like some advice before I do it

Hi

Not sure what you mean by the indexing pin - is this part of the lathe spindle? - I'm fairly conversant with the G3 chuck and am not aware of any pin that would interfere with it's fitting.

If you can give a bit more detail I'll try and assist.

the indexing pin locks the spindle pulley and sits at the side of the drive spur but it is about 5mm to near to the drive pulley to allow the G3 Chuck to screw right down on the head stock I have never used it and thought if I removed it. would be better than fixing a sleeve to stand the chuck of the headstock and clear of the pin.

I think I see the issue - have I labled the lock pin correctly below?

Do you have the centre ejector installed when you are fitting the chuck? If not, install it and see if the lock pin still fouls the chuck.

I have had the centre ejector on but the chuck only screws on about half way it feels tight but being new to wood turning i was a bit worried that it might need to go on further to be safe

Hi

OK - If the chuck screws on for more than about 19mm just nip the centre ejector to the chuck to assist in locking it into place. If the chuck clears the lock pin in that configuration you'll be OK to go ahead and start turning.
