Drummond Roundbed lathe from 1912 £300 Ono
Full details of this very popular machine can be found in the Drummond page in the machine archive of the lathes.co.uk site
Drummond were a highly successful engineering company making machines from the late 1800s through to the 1940s when they merged with Myford to produce machines for the war effort.
This is a particularly well cared for example still capable of precise work in the right hands
Main features:
4” centre height
12” between centre
Flat belt pulleys - (slip easily if there’s a jam)
3 jaw chuck and key
4 jaw chuck
Graduated cross slide
Adjustable centre height
Dog clutch for Auto feed
Full set of change wheel gears
5.5” face plate
6.5” faceplate
Spare 4” back plate for adding extra chuck
Spare 5” backplate
Tool post for square and round tools -useful for boring bars
Countershaft with pillar block bearings
Morse Taper 1 dead centre
Keyless tail stock chuck Morse Taper 1
spanner for tool post
Also included is a 1 pint Braimes oil can as these machines are total loss lubrication- this machine shows how reliable that system is!
Check photos for more details I have more pics but cannot load them all
All mounted on a temporary board it needs bolting down to a bench and setting up so belts track then it’s just a question of plugging into an electric supply
Very heavy due to the cast iron components and the bed, can assist with loading at this end
There is an active Facebook group for Drummond owners which is friendly and helpful as well as being a source of manuals and operating instructions in the files section
( I think!) the price is fair, there’s plenty of cheaper examples out there but they will require hours of work to get them to match the condition of this machine and its accessories.
Collection from north Cumbria about 19 miles from Carlisle due to the weight, can assist with loading. Thanks
