Morning,

time has come that i need to replace the top of my old (30 years) B & D Workmate.

It has the proper PLYWOOD top - does anyone know what kind of ply I need to buy?

Thank you, Chris

Hi,

Birch ply it the best to one to use, but watch out some of it from the big sheds isn't very good.

You don't need to use ply. I replaced the tops of my oldish one with some decent lumps of iroko and as the thing lives outside all year it seems to be fine - Rob

Cutting through the top of my cheapie workmate was one of the best things I ever did. I replaced it with some rough saw treated timber from wickes. The roughness really helps grip what ever I put on it.

I'd favour solid wood as well. I have the original Mate Tools Workmate with a solid Beech top that is 39 years old and it's still OK.

Cheers
