I have a project in mind to make some laminated wooden mudguards/fenders for a vintage race bike I have restored. I need strips about 40mm wide and thin enough to laminate to a bike wheel radius of approx 360mm without the finished product getting too thick, say 2mm. Ideally a pale wood (Ash) and a darker one for a go faster stripe. 3 lamination's should do it, strips would need to be 1200mm for rear guard and about 650 for the front.
I intend to finish the product with a good varnish and SS fittings.

I cant post link but a similar project can be found by searching for laminated bicycle mudguards on the on instructables site

My question is where should I source this wood?

cheers

Ted

Google "constructional veneer", you can get 2mm from plenty of veneer suppliers, like "Original Marquetry". It's not cheap.

Good luck!

wooden blinds.
aim for 4mm else it will be to weak no matter how make them. which is ideal as it's 3 laminations.
this comes from experience, I made a set a few years ago, inlaid the stripe from a darker blind which I'd thinned to 0.5mm which was laid in post bend.

use an old rim as a form and loads of clamps.

I've also made a set with 1 peice (no lamination) and steam bent which worked perfectly.
