Wood I. D

Hey all. I was just given a nice slab of wood, approx 4 feet long, 8 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches thick (roughly). I was originally told it was oak, however after receiving it, I'm kind of thinking it looks like mahogany. Could anyone let me know from these images please?

Definitely not oak. I'd plump for sapele.

Yes, one of a multitude of African "mahoganies" - certainly not oak.

Thanks guys. Looking at that wood database link for sapele, there is another link for genuine mahogany, which looks more like my piece. If it does turn out to be genuine, I think I may set it aside as a guitar building piece with my son

looks like sapele to me, the best way to tell is looking at the end grain with a 10x loupe, that's the only way you can be certain.
