I was watching an 'askwoodman' video on YouTube and he mentioned the idea of keeping your wood glue in the fridge to give you a longer open time. Simple idea! I wonder how much of a difference it would make, ... 10 minutes extra?

Also, an excuse for a workshop mini fridge, which coincidently has space for a few beers :)

The more beer, the longer it takes to open the door to get more beer.

I've just started using titebond 111 due to the heat drying out the bison glue i normally use.
Huge difference in the setting time. Put the titebond in the fridge and it would take a week to cure.

If you fridge is below 5C (which it should be) that's too cold for curing properly according to the PVA I use...

Sure - but you wouldn't be leaving the piece to dry in the fridge. It would warm up to room temperature ....

I did try getting my sideboard into the fridge ... :D

With PVA or PU you can damp or even quickly wet the surfaces to give youy a bit more time in very hot, dry weather.
I've found pu and water have the opposite effect. I usually give the surfaces a quick wipe if I want the glue to cure quicker.

I thought this too! go home Phil, you're drunk!

I tried the water spray trick to delay curing......., nope.

I accept i have a lot more heat than you guys, but the water spray added seconds at best.

Titebond "Extend" has a longer (I've no idea exactly how much longer mind you) open time than regular Titebond. I keep a bottle handy for beer fueled glue ups ;)

Sorry. Yes it sets it, but I find the joints slide together a bit easier though. Wouldn't work of course with multiple joints.

I've just this minute come in from gluing up a set of blanks for my next box.
Alternating walnut and rosewood, 6 squares in all.
Laid them all in a line and spread titebond three all over 5 surfaces 7" x 12", had time to spread the glue all over, slap them together, put them in the big vice, align one side with a square, and then tighten using the vice and seven clamps along the top edge.

No problem at all.
Oh, the temp in the garage is 38c (100.4f)

no way could I have done all that with the other glue. i know because I've tried it in the past. with or without water spray.

Titebond 111 does it for me.

Now its time for me to cool off.
