We're about to start sorting out the granny annex attached to our house that has been untouched more or less since the late 1960s. After peeling back some old carpet we found the floor covered with a basket weave parquet. Most of it is dirty but I have sanded a bit and given it a quick wipe of Osmo. Anybody got suggestions as to the timber species - apologies for the poor photograph!

Thanks.

I'd guess walnut, I'm guessing the yellow tinge is because it's indoors with yellow lighting?

Teak's the most likely candidate.

Life doesn't get any better, losing a swirly carpet and gaining a solid Teak floor, all in the space of five minutes!

Thanks for that info - it was a nice surprise to find it under 3 old fitted carpets. We now have to decide how to treat the annex. Currenly it has small, dark ground level rooms and we would like to open it up a bit so we'd have to fill spaces left by any walls removed. One of the other surprises was the attic space - no intrusive timber support structure, high headroom for most of the area, flooring joists of 9 x 2 in 16 inch centres along with an RSJ supporting the rear of the roof above where a rear facing dormer would look over the fields to the sea at Bosham. My wife vaguely remembers it being mentioned years ago that the space was specced for 'easy conversion' to upstairs living accommodation.
