Why do they say one thing and mean another? Even after 40 years I struggle sometimes to understand my wife.

While in Hong Kong I was looking at a new Canon lens (as you do :) ) and my wife encouraged me to buy. I didn't as I decided £400 for a non UK lens was just not worth it.
Canon currently have a cashback offer so I have just bought the lens at a net cost of £358 and put my other lenses on ebay which should fetch £200 - £250.
So rather pleased with myself until she says "How much, what do you want that for?, you hardly use the camera" etc etc. (hammer)
They just aren't logical and the fact I saved £42 is of no consequence.

anyway the good bits:

1). I've got the lens.
2). in a pique of retalliation I looked for "stuff" to sell and scraped together my scrap metal hoard = 2 sacks copper, 1 brass and some lead = £ lots a wonga! :lol:
3). Unearthed some of my "collected" therodolites and was astonished at the prices they seem to be fetching. Just got to do some research now as to where best to sell.

It's an ill wind - haven't told her about the theodolites - can feel some potential tool purchases coming on :wink:

:lol: Thanks for the insider info Jen :lol:

Told her about the theodolites and scrap metal (she'd guess anyway after 40 years of togetherness), so that could be my new tool plan out of the window.
Depends how well I do with her birthday this week I think :) :wink:

<bitter and twisted rant.>
I've come to the conclusion that all women are weird, even the nice ones. It's just a question of degree. I wish I had this attitude when I was young, it would have saved me a great deal of grief.

You know how houses have a Energy Performance Rating? It's like this now, but it's potentially like this? Perhaps women should come with a similar Weirdness rating? What does the panel think?

I just know I don't want to have anything to do with another bleep, bleep, bleeping woman as long as I live. They wreck your life, one way or another.

</bitter and twisted rant.>

There was a time in my past Steve when I foresook engineering and sold insurance, and if you think women are weird you should see some of their excuses for a car crash.
Men are never at fault in this situation, but at least their excuses show some sense of logic.
One of my favourites was , I was struck by a stationary tree!

I learn't some time ago a great skill of ignorance towards women. I now only hear them when I want to. Yes I don't then know everything and they claim to have told me weeks in advance but its not that much of a downside. I also learn't that asking a woman a question is just stupid, replying to a text when there is no question or its a non direct question is just foolish an starting any conversation is insane, I learn't my lesson and you'll do well listening to my advice :D

Anyway "Canon" - "lens for sale". What you brought and what you selling??

I've bought an EF-S 18-200 is because I really need something light and decent zoom for holidays as well as wide angle as all in one.

The lenses I have listed on ebay (don't think I'm supposed to link on here) are an EF 28-135 is usm and a 100-300 usm, both Canon. Probably better quality than I've bought. The ring usm mechanism is definately superior to the geared type on the new lens so a bit of a compromise. The 28-135 is a great walkabout lens I just wanted greater zoom without carrying the 100-300 and couldn't afford the "L" lens I wanted :mrgreen:

Auction ends Sunday and quite a lot of watchers as well as a couple of bids and 3 requests for buy it now price so confident of selling.

Bob

If the new one is the 72mm lens F/3.5-5.6 IS then its VERY good lens. I know one guy that has this attached to his 50D permanently and even taken the 24-105mm L series lens off.

Do you find the 18mm works well as a wide angle on a cropped sensor camera as technically (unless you have the 1D) the focal length at 18mm is really 29mm.

I have thought about the 18-200mm as an everyday lens but think I would miss the 300mm reach so would still carry the 75-300mm mkIII USM with me. Currently I have the 28-80mm USM as an everyday, its not often I need a wide angle but its in my mind to add one to the collection and at £400 less the 18-200mm seems a more affordable (and dynamic) option then the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L. Although Having a crop sensor camera I keep thinking I would be better with the 10-22 mm - F/3.5-4.5 which also is 0.5 better in the aperture at its wider point.

I miss the Sigma 28-200mm lens as an everyday, I still have it on my 35mm film SLR but its not compatible with my 50D.

Hi HC
you're much more knowlegable than me. I just point and shoot most of the time though I do experiment a bit on manual settings when I can :lol: my son is the real expert and he started out with the same camera as me (400d) plus the 18-200 lens which later passed on to my daughter when I bought her a 1000d body. He's progressed to a 5D and a couple of L lenses but specialises in landscapes and doesn't need long zoom.
I've therefore had the opportunity to try out the 18-200 prior to purchase and yes it is the latest 72mm lens. The've added a lock to stop the "creep" common with long zoom which I like as well. Shame they didn't put the excellent ring USM mechanism in though #-o

Just had someone offer me £90 to end the auction on the 100-300 but with 5 days left to run, I've declined the offer with thanks.

Bob

5D is a great camera and full frame, plus the mkIII is now out. I have a lens that has creep too, quite annoying. I hope to go down the 5D route at some point but im still wondering whether I should get the 7D first. I have the 50D currently.

I have the 40D but still use the lenses I bought with my 20D namely:
EFS 17-85 IS and EF 75-300 IS.
They are quite heavy though being stabilised.
