But then that is the whole point. The simple 60 degree threads are cheap, it is only when cheapness is not the prime consideration that the more complex rounded threads get used.

Not my problem anymore thank goodness , and hasn't been for 20+ yrs. there again it never really computed in my last job, when being asked to fix a F111 failed wing bearing or an F16 that someone had bent, cost of the odd bit of tooling was not forefront of the costing quote.

Makes the years of collected oddments in the shop 'might be useful some time' tins a real boon now and again.
The shear ability to recover something that is workable, like your task is a great satisfaction regardless of how you achieve it.
