Out walking last week I found this tree, there must be something intresting to make out of it one day.

I I agree, I'm going to add, "It's a big tree" although I'm guessing as you haven't held a rule against it.

Re ID Chris, I'd guess something Conifer/Cedar/Thuya. It's definitely something that has been broken and formed a crown badly compared to a how a broad leaf would cope.
Not a species good for pollarding.
 
Richard you are half right............ most of it is a "pine" but there is also a three foot tall Ash sapling growing out of the top where it was truncated.
