There seems to be some wear around the central portion and there's a little blackening at the tips.

Any ideas?

I was going to put on eBay as "A Wooden Thingy" ... but thought I'd see if I could find out.

Looks quite old.

Done the usual with Google images but no luck.

Rolling pin, or some sort of lead dressing/bending tool? Otherwise, I'm with Vic Perrin on its potential use

I have no idea. Most of the obvious ideas would require a hard(ish) wood, and your object looks a lot like pine.

I'll stick my neck out and say it's not a woodworking tool and I have no idea what a leather worker would do with it.

Are there any clues from other items you got it with? Any sailing connection at all?
