Hi,

I have made a boxwood pendant inlayed with paua shell for SWMBO. What should I use to finish it? I have shelac or a tungoil finish to hand.

I have not tried finishing something so dense before.

Regards

Leigh

Not seeing the finished item design makes recommendations difficult but my instinct would be to finish with a Melamine lacquer for it's hard wearing characteristics and moisture resistance and polish with Micro crystalline wax to increase moisture resistance, add shine, and add finger mark resistance.

Tried adding a pic and failed, do I need to have a certain amount of posts before I can link an image?

Regards

Leigh

Can you upload it as an attachment? see lower down in the posting page details.
Make sure the file size is less than 256kb. Pixel size is not critcal.

Voila.

Hope this works

OK, my instinct still says seal wood with cellulose sanding sealer at least, better use Melamine reinforced lacquer (it's tougher) and finish with Microcrystalline Wax.

Here's one brand that I use but obviously which ever brand is most readily available to you.
