What finish for a kayak paddle

Hi folks , can someone advise me on what finish to put on a paddle , i think the guy has made it out of laminated sycamore & someone has suggested linseed oil, Now would this be suitable . (I believe there are different types of linseed oil) Any suggestions would be helpful , thanks for reading , Tony

I had a word with a friend of mine who has made his own paddle, he said there are lots of different ways that paddlers finish their paddles but his is to use boiled linseed oil. He said he prefers it because when the finish wears where it scrapes on the side of the boat it is just a matter of re-applying more oil. Those that use varnish have to strip or cut right back and then re-varnish.
