I’ve refitted a couple of banisters, and they were both 3-4-5 triangles. 4 along the floor, 3 in height, and 5 as the hypotenuse. This give a 37.5 degree incline.
Steep steps are ~45 degrees in my experience.
I think a leaning ladder is also a 3-4-5 triangle, but with the floor and height lengths swapped.
Obviously you then can do a vertical ladder, but that’s difficult to climb.
