What an IDIOT I am !!

Decided to do a bit of Maintenance and a good clean up of my Maxi 1 lathe yesterday.

I had not removed the Super Nova chuck for a while so removed the grub screw and found that the chuck was solid, managed to get it moving but it was still very tight. Following further investigation I found that the chuck was double grub screwed onto the headstock shaft. After removing the second grub screw the chuck came off ok albeit a little tight.

To my horror I had damaged the threads on the headstock shaft. Luckily enough I had a thread file of the correct pitch and managed to clean up the damaged threads on the shaft. After refitting the chuck and testing the lathe out everything was ok.

Lesson learnt Look before you Leap

It happens to us all, left hand threads can make you look really stupid.
