wetstone grinding wheel systems

Hello all. I am considering a wet stone sharpening system such as the Tormek or Jet. At the moment I have a very old wetstone grinding wheel, a dimond stone, 1000 and 4000 grit Japanese wetstone and M3 lapping film all used with a krell sharpening jig. My system works but takes about 10-15 mins per blade so I wondered if a new grinding wheel would help speed up the process, I would probably still use the lapping film as it produces such a sharpe edge. The other function I am looking for is some way of sharpening planner thicknesses blades, I know the Tormek will do this but I am sure I could get the cheaper Jet model and the Tormek jig.
