Wenge is a nightmare! Challenge Box #4

Wenge is a very beautiful wood, but boy did it really tick me off this last week!

Any tips or tricks to avoid chipping and blow-out? I tried several things, but it's so brittle...especially the quarter sawn stuff.

My intention for the Box-a-Week build was to make three, small sliding lid boxes with Wenge and Marblewood. I ended up with a single, more simple Wenge lift lid box that I whipped up over the weekend from the salvaged parts of the three planned boxes.

I have a nice thick length of Wenge that I am saving for something special, looks like its going to be a while longer before it gets used.
Its good you managed to save it in the end.

Everything has to have rounded corners / edges and forget about going against the grain, watch out for splinters.....

If there's one wood I really hate working with its wenge.
I like the look of it... but really hate to work with it.

I turned some Wenge cardigan buttons a while back. They came out really well but I had to be ever so careful when turning. It chipped really easily.
