I'm designing a fitted wardrobe with three 2 metre high sliding doors on a top hung Saheco metal track.

I'm looking at two ways to make the doors but don't know which to choose -

either

1. Flat sheets of 18 mm walnut veneered MDF, edged. Base would be routed for the sliding mechanism to latch onto.
or
2. panelled doors (tulipwood stiles and rails ?) with a much thinne r6mm MDF walnut veneered inset.

1 is easier I'm sure, but maybe heavier. 2. probably look nicer.

Which way would you do this?

it's a matter of taste really.

with the flat 18mm, depending on width you may or may not get a nice split line, unless you go and pick out the sheet yourself, finding one with the repeat in the right place.

if you are going to the effort of making panelled doors, why not use walnut for the frame instead of tulipwood?

I recently did someones laundry area in walnut.

as said it's a matter of taste and surroundings.

Nathan, they look fantastic. I don't know if I could afford walnut for the frame ... about 12 linear metres ... I haven't dared to get a quote yet hence the looking for something that might contrast.
